 In Breeds, dog grooming

It’s that time again, an occasion that is just as bad, if not worse than bath time. It’s grooming day. There’s your little pawed-pal all covered with mats and curls and all sorts of debris on their coat. They’ve held out long enough, but you absolutely have to do something about that furry mess. You know it will be a fight and a frustrating experience as your dog will run, squirm, nip, and whine the whole time. You love your loyal pal, but you didn’t think they would shed a whole quilt of hair every week. You’ve learned from your experience and want all your friends and family to know that if they’re looking to get canine companion, then the following breeds are assured to offer the least amount of maintenance when it comes to dog grooming.

1. Greyhound

There’s just something about a greyhound that melts your heart. Maybe it’s their pretty, narrow faces and expressive eyes. In any case, Greyhounds are one of the most low maintenance dog breeds when it comes to grooming. Shedding is almost nonexistent thanks to their short, robust coats.

2. Lowchen

Known as the Little Lion Dog in German for its lush, flowing mane, the Lowchen may seem like a chronic shedder. Don’t be alarmed; the little Lowchen is actually considered one of the most hypoallergenic breeds around. So if you’re looking for a smaller pooch that looks noble and doesn’t shed, a Lowchen might be for you.

3. Poodle

Did you know that some dogs only have a single layer coat instead of a double coat like most breeds? The Poodle is one of those dogs with a dingle layer and as such, it sheds very little. Many hypoallergenic breeds have been created through the poodle.

4. Xoloitzcuintli

This one may seem a bit strange, but this ancient dog breed from Mexico is tops when it comes to low grooming needs. More commonly known as the Mexican hairless dog, the Xoloitzcuintli comes in a completely hairless breed and one with a very thin coat. Either way, this dog doesn’t require anything more special than a bath when it comes to grooming.

5. Yorkshire Terrier

Oh the little Yorkies. Every time one enters the room it becomes the center of the universe. With so much spunk and a silky coat it’s no wonder why this lap dog is loved. Although Yorkies’ hair will continually grow, you can expect minimal shedding from this dynamo of a dog.
