February is dedicated to educating pet parents about spaying and neutering their pets with a program called “Beat the Heat”.  Texas and the rest of the States are trying to get a handle on the overpopulation of dogs and cats before the spring and summer weather hits us and leads to an increase in shelter pets.

Let’s go over some facts first…

Did you know that dogs can go into heat and get pregnant as young as 5 months? (Most pups that young are still learning basic obedience!)

Did you know that 90% of pets entering the shelter are NOT fixed?

New research has shown that you can safely spay and neuter your pet as early as 2 months of age.

A good rule of thumb for preparing to get your pet fixed is that they must be at least two months of age and at least weigh two pounds.

Below I have attached 5 different organizations in the San Antonio area that offer low-cost spay/neuter programs. Please, give them a call to schedule your pet!

SNAP: 210-673-7722

San Antonio Humane Society: 210-226-7461

SNIPSA: 210-237-9400

Pet Shotz: 210-735-1004

Animal Defense League: 210-655-1481 (Their vet office is under construction but you can make appointment for March)

At Pawderosa Ranch we allow all breeds, fixed or not, but pups who are over 8 months old and not fixed cannot participate in group play. Females must not be in heat at the time of visiting us. Each Rancher is cared for by a specialized staff who understand the benefits of dog daycare and lodging and who are passionate about making Pawderosa Ranch the best dog boarding in San Antonio.

Until next week…Well Wishes and Puppy Kisses!
XOXO,
Baelyn

We can’t wait to see your pup!
