Kids might believe in the Easter bunny, but your pups believe in the Easter Beagle (if you know, you know). While you’re enjoying Peeps and chocolate bunnies, make sure your dogs are enjoying the holiday season with you! Check out the recipes below for some healthy and colorful dog-friendly treats that you can easily create at home.
Carrot Pup Muffins
Carrots aren’t just for our bunny friends, dogs can enjoy them too! And when you put the carrots in muffin form, your pups will be hopping around for joy.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 3 medium carrots, shredded
- 1 cup sugar-free apple sauce
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 Cup of milk
- 1 1/2 Cup of whole wheat flour
- 1 Teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 Tablespoon of baking powder
Making the Treats
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and line mini-muffin pans with paper liners.
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix the shredded carrots, apple sauce, eggs and milk. Set aside once thoroughly mixed.
- In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, cinnamon and baking powder.
- Once well combined, add the wet carrot mixture to the flour mixture and stir until mixed.
- Spoon the muffin batter into paper liners until 1/2 to 2/3 full.
- Bake the muffins for 10 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle come out clean.
- Cool 5 minutes in pans then remove and place on wire racks to cool completely.
- Bone Appetit!
Pastel Pupsicles
These homemade dog treats create a pretty Easter aesthetic. Sure, your dogs may not be able to see the colorful creation, but they’ll enjoy it nonetheless.
Treat Ingredients:
- Reduced fat coconut milk
- Beetroot powder (pink tint)
- Turmeric powder (yellow tint)
- Spirulina powder (blue-green tint)
Making the Treats
- Separate your coconut milk into small containers for mixing individual powder tints.
- Add tints and stir to combine. Some tints benefit from taking a little more time to develop and take on their full color potential.
- Once you’re satisfied with the colors, carefully pour or spoon into silicone molds. Here’s some fun dog treat molds we found on Amazon!
- Freeze thoroughly before removing from the molds. Transfer the completed treats to a suitable container and return to the freezer for frozen storage until use.
- When it’s time for the big day, take out the frozen traits from storage and enjoy with your pup!
Easter Beagle Eggs
Easter eggs aren’t just for humans, they’re for dogs too! Your furry friend will enjoy these eggs while you enjoy your chocolate eggs beside them.
Ingredient Needs:
- Mini Egg Mold
- Your choice of yogurt or carob chocolate drops
Making the Treats:
- Melt the yogurt or carob drops in a bowl over very low heat.
- Using a teaspoon, fill each mold with melted yogurt or carob drops.
- Gently tap the mold on the bench surface to spread and fill the cavity evenly.
- Refrigerate until set, about 20 minutes. When set, the egg halves should easily slide out of the mold. Set aside.
- Repeat steps 1-3. Place a solid egg half on top of each cavity so when set, the two halves will be joined.
- Refrigerate until set. Gently remove the solid eggs from the mold.
- Serve to your pups and enjoy!
