The puppy stage is every pup parent’s favorite stage. Puppies are cute, fluffy and eager to learn. Using their eagerness to your advantage, you can set yourself up for a well-behaved adult dog. Here are my must-know tricks for puppies!
Ringing a bell to go potty – Potty training is a must for every pup. One way to teach him to communicate with you is by ringing a bell to go potty.
How to properly walk on a leash – It’s so cute how excited your puppy gets while out for a walk, but you’ll have to remember that soon you’ll have a full-size dog on the other end in a matter of months. It’s best to teach him while he’s small to not pull on leash.
No counter surfing – Counter surfing is a classic puppy move, they smell your yummy lunch on the counter or table and try to get close for a better smell or even a taste of it. Teaching your pup ‘Off’ not only saves you from losing your lunch but also teaches them boundaries. The ‘Off’ command can also be used for puppies who like to jump up on friends in and outside of the home.
Drop it – Going back to your pup getting a taste of your lunch, ‘Drop It’ can be used to get an item out of his mouth. For pups who play tug with your sleeves or have your sandwich in their mouths, ‘Drop it’ is your go-to!
Basic commands – Would you love for your pup to respond to commands such as sit, down, place, leave it, heel and come? At Pawderosa Ranch, we will train your pup and establish a solid foundation for lifelong learning and enrichment in our Lodge & Learn program.
