Fiesta has officially descended upon the people of San Antonio! One of the most beloved and celebrated times of the year, Fiesta means cascarones and confetti galore, colorful parades and a week and a half outdoor enjoyment.
While the majority of Fiesta events are not centered on your canine companion, there are quite a few that encourage Fido to tag along. Many activities are outdoors, which is the perfect opportunity to leash up your pup and take him or her for some exercise and social fun.
Below are the top Fiesta events to enjoy with your dog by your side.
El Rey Fido Coronation
April 16
10-11 a.m.
Admission is free.
El Rey Fido is an annual fundraiser for the San Antonio Humane Society where human/dog teams compete to be crowned El Rey Fido and his/her Royal Court.
10th Street River Festival
April 21-23
12 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.
Admission is free.
On the beautiful, historic grounds of VFW Post 76, this event is a place for great fun, food, cold drinks and entertainment that exemplify the diversity of San Antonio. Musical groups will cover Tejano, oldies, blues and country & western.
Battle of Flowers Parade
April 22
12:20 – 4 p.m.
$12-$25
2016 marks the 125th year of this historical parade. The Battle of Flowers Parade honors the heroic spirit of the patriots of the Alamo, commemorates the victory at San Jacinto and enhances and celebrates the diversity and heritage of all the people of Texas. Bring your pet, and enjoy the second largest day parade in the U.S.
Fiesta Pooch Parade
April 23
8 – 11 a.m.
$30 for individuals, $35 for families at the door
Therapy Animals of San Antonio proudly presents its 18th annual Fiesta Pooch Parade complete with exhibits, presentations and a Canine Costume Contest that begins at 8:15 a.m. The parade features a 2.6 mile walk through the tree-lined streets of Alamo Heights.
King William Fair
April 23
$10 for Adults, Children 12 and under are free
Beginning with a delightful parade where you may be able to see a pup or two on the parade floats, the daylong event offers a variety of art and craft vendors, lively music, dance, a play area and delicious foods and beverages.
